A Significant Breakthrough in the Development of Vietnam’s Transportation Infrastructure
The Dien Chau-Bai Vot Expressway Project: A Significant Breakthrough in the Development of Vietnam’s Transportation Infrastructure
The investment in the construction of the Dien Chau-Bai Vot section, a crucial component of the expressway project on the East side of the North-South corridor during the 2017-2020 phase, has received approval from the National Assembly and the Government. This signifies a robust investment in Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure. The project is a pivotal milestone as it is the first of the three investment components to be implemented through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The objective is to enhance the quality and connectivity of transportation between regions, while providing favorable conditions for socio-economic development in the upcoming phase.
Scale and Characteristics of the Project:
The project spans over 49km, featuring 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 17m, and a designed speed of 80km/h. Additionally, it includes a road tunnel approximately 1,100m long passing through Than Vu mountain and several impressive bridge structures, including the Hung Duc Bridge with a length exceeding 4km. With a total investment capital of over 11,157 billion VND, where the state contributes over 6,067 billion VND and mobilized capital exceeds 5,090 billion VND. The estimated construction time for this expressway section is 3 years, with an operational period to recoup the investment expected to be 16 years, 6 months, and 8 days. According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat, the project not only plays a crucial role in promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security but also holds significant importance in implementing the policy of socializing infrastructure investment, addressing challenges encountered during the recent development period.
Project Progress:
Currently, the project has been divided into 4 bidding packages, with an execution value of 2,046.5 billion VND (equivalent to 24.02% of the contract value). The total disbursement for construction works is 1,751.87 billion VND (equivalent to 20.38% of the contract value). The Than Vu Tunnel Project – a Key Highlight: Within the project framework, the Than Vu Tunnel plays a crucial role, with a length of 1,280 meters passing through the Than Vu mountain, connecting Diễn Phú commune, Dien Chau district, with Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province. The Dien Chau – Bai Vot expressway project is not only a significant step in improving the quality of transportation infrastructure but also evidence of determination and innovation in project and financial management. The implementation of this project marks not only the solid improvement of Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure but also serves as positive encouragement for similar projects in the future.
